Winter Writing Contest for Adults

The New Orleans Public Library wants your short story, poem, or essay for our inaugural Winter Writing Contest!

New Orleans turns 300!
With this theme in mind, use at least seven of these ten words within your submission: Revelry, Commemorate, Culture, Reflection, Anniversary, Tradition, Resilience, Influence, Becoming, Inheritance

Deadline: Friday, January 11, 2019 at 5pm
How to Enter: Printed submissions can be dropped off at any New Orleans Public Library location. Please include the completed entry form with any submissions. Entries can also be submitted via email to contest@nolalibrary.org. Put “2019 Winter Writing Contest” in the subject line. Paste the entire entry into the body of the email along with your name, email address, phone number, and library card number. Emails with attachments will be deleted unread.

Winners will be announced on Friday, February 2.

1st Place: $100 Value Prize Pack
2nd Place: $50 Value Prize Pack
3rd Place: $25 Value Prize Pack

Black History Month 2019 Poster Design Contest for Children & Teens

All entries will be judged on creativity, artistic merit, and best representation of the 2019 Black History Month theme: Black Migrations.

Deadline: Friday, January 18, 2019 at 12pm
How to Enter: Drop off entries at any New Orleans Public Library or mail to: Black History Month Poster Contest, New Orleans Public Library, 219 Loyola Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70112

Winning posters will be displayed at all 15 Library locations throughout Black History Month. Copies of the winning posters will be given to winners and their schools.

There are two prize categories: Pre-K– 6th Grade & 7th –12th Grade
Top Prizes: $100 Gift Cards
2nd Prizes: $50 Gift Cards
3rd Prizes: $25 Gift Cards
