New Orleans Public Library Foundation

The New Orleans Public Library Foundation is the fundraising arm of the New Orleans Public Library, founded in 1990 to support the library by managing gifts made by private individuals, companies, and foundations. It is an educational, charitable non-profit organization under IRS Section 501(c)3.

The Foundation's mission is to strengthen the library system by mobilizing resources to promote excellent facilities, innovative services, and extensive use of these educational, civic, and cultural resources.

The Foundation envisions for New Orleans a vibrant public library system featuring excellent facilities and offering quality services, programs and technologies that support a culture of lifelong learning, promote a strong democracy, and advance a creative economy for all throughout the City of New Orleans.

Friends of the New Orleans Public Library

For over 56 years the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library have helped the city of New Orleans build, maintain and service their libraries. Founded in 1957 to raise funds and public awareness for the building of the main library, the Friends have consistently supported all of the city’s library branches. Resources are generated through book sales,memberships and donations.

The Friends subsidize National Library Week, literacy teachers, homework help, storytelling, crafts, Black History Month, the Tom Dent Literary Festival, Teen Read Week, the summer reading program, books and equipment. There are many ways to participate and join the Friends in their mission to aid the libraries of New Orleans.
