This building at 5300 St. Charles Avenue once served as the official residence for the president of New Orleans University, one of the institutions that merged to create Dillard University. The University's property later housed Gilbert Academy, a prominent school for African American young men in the Crescent City. Gilbert closed its doors in the late 1940s and the structure was demolished shortly thereafter. The site is now occupied by De La Salle High School.
