King Robert Ritchie ruled over the ball of the Krewe of Noblads at the Auditorium on January 21, 1969. The Noblads theme, The Enchanted Book, celebrated the world of the fairy tale, giving grown up guests the opportunity to "surrender to those childhood fantasies of long ago."

Noblads began in 1937 as the ladies carnival contingent of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, whose members filled the ranks of the male Krewe of Moslem. Noblads held its annual ball at the Jerusalem Temple until 1955 when it followed Moslem to the Auditorium.
