According the the report of the Louisiana Board of Commissioners to the fair,
Louisiana Day was "the most conspicuous State day of the
exposition." Its highlight was the ceremony reenacting the transfer of Louisiana from France to the United
States. The ceremony was a repeat performance of the reenactment held at the real Cabildo in New
Orleans on December 19, 1903. Two of the "actors" in the ceremony were direct descendents of the actual
participants. Charles F. Claiborne represented his grandfather, Governor W.C.C. Claiborne, and Theodore
S. Wilkinson represented his great-grandfather, Brigadier General James Wilkinson. Professor
Alcée Fortier, President of the Louisiana Historical Society, represented Colonial Prefect Pierre
Clement Laussat.
