Pontchartrain Park in the mid-1950s, before construction began in the area. The park, initially constructed for use by African Americans, was developed in the mid-1950s by the Park and Parkways Commission on the lakefront land adjacent to the Industrial Canal. At the same time, Pontchartrain Park subdivision was built by private investors on land surrounding the public park. (For additional photographs of Pontchartrain Park, click HERE.)
