This photograph of one-hundred-foot tugboats under construction in the Higgins Industries assembly line was taken ca. 1953-1954. Higgins Industries, founded in 1930 by Andrew Jackson Higgins, grew over the next decades to become one of the biggest employers in New Orleans, especially during World War II, when the Higgins plants built the famous landing crafts used in the D-Day invasion.
