Pontchartrain Beach amusement park from the air, 1947 or 1948, with the Zephyr dominating the scene. The photograph was taken by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Over the years, until it closed on September 5, 1983, the Beach featured not only fun in the sun and surf and the joys of the amusement park midway but also concerts (Elvis was there!), aerial acts, fireworks displays, dolphin shows, dance revues, and beauty contests.
