Finally, a real costume! This photograph has a caption on the back which reads: "A VESTIGE OF MEDIEVAL JOUSTING IS THE "TOURNOI", DEMONSTRATED AT THE COTTON FESTIVAL, VILLE PLATTE, LOUISIANA -- Each fall, the harvest of the cotton season is celebrated by the local French Acadians of Ville Platte. A feature of this festival is the "Tournoi", in which the area's best horsemen don a medieval knight's costume and try to spear, from a running horse, a ring hanging from a post alongside a special circular track. This contest, only one of its kind in America, is an exciting display of both horse and rider skill." The photograph was taken by the Louisiana Tourist and Development Commission.
