Images of the Month Gallery
July 1998
Like the images in last month's gallery, the July images are drawn from our "Contact Print
Collection," a rather mysterious set of small prints taken around 1912-1914 depicting buildings and riverfront scenes.
Some of the images have been at least tentatively identified by a previous Louisiana Division curator, but many of the
photos, like the photographer who took them, remain puzzles. A number of the photographs share a common theme
of building construction or demolition. This fact, unfortunately, doesn't take us very far toward solving the mystery of
the collection's origin. The little prints are ripe for further study.
