Pelican Ice Company (1916)

The Pelican Ice Co. at 1550 St. Louis Street made ice at the rate of 112 tons a day, and the Pelican Cold Storage Plant at 1561 St. Louis had a storage capacity of 500,000 cubic feet. The 1916 volume brags that the company was "probably the best exponent of an ice delivery company in this part of the country, the red wagons, serving all over the city, furnishing the necessary ice to the domestic and consuming trade." One thing's for sure -- you can never have too much ice in New Orleans in the summertime!
