November 29 (p. 1)
General Leon Jastremski died on November 25, 1907 in the middle of his second campaign for govenor of Louisiana. Probably the most famous Polish-Louisianian (though actually born in France) in the State's history, Jastremski had a long career in the military, in government, and in the field of journalism. He served for eight years as Mayor of Baton Rouge and also as the Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture. General Jastremski is the subject of a book, Pills, Pen & Politics--The Story of General Leon Jastremski (1974) by Edward Pinkowski.
