John Chase, 1950

John Churchill Chase as he appeared in a 1950 issue of Action, the official publication of the Young Men's Business Club of New Orleans. The photograph accompanies an article about Chase's upcoming talk to the YMBA on New Orleans' street names. Frenchmen, Desire, Good Children had been published the year before and won the Louisiana Library Association's award as the most distinguished book on Louisiana published during 1949. "Oh yes, that book" the article quotes Chase as saying, "I had to write it so I could shut up talking about the streets of New Orleans."
