Walter Carey took these three photographs on May 11, 1938 while enroute to the Cypremort crevasse (in the Atchafalaya Basin, east of Henderson, La.) via Butte La Rose Bay and Newton's Canal. He was travelling on the tug "Rodney" pushing a gravel barge. His photos "show general character of waterway and the hyacinths or 'water lilies.'" The captions are Carey's own catalog descriptions of the photographs.
