Scholastic Donates Harry Potter Books
September 12, 2007 Martin Luther King Branch

On September 12, Scholastic, the publishers of the Harry Potter series, donated a complete set of Harry Potter books to each branch of New Orleans Public Library. The presentation took place at the Martin Luther King Branch.

School system dignitaries wore their Harry Potter sorting hats at the presentation ceremonies. Ernest B. Fleishman, Senior Vice-President of Education for Scholastic, discussed how 1600 school children from Orleans Parish schools will be selected to meet the author, J.K. Rowling, on October 18.

Mayor Ray Nagin, speaking at the event, told children about the importance of reading. He also told them that he is an avid reader.

Library Director Donna Schremser accepted the donation of complete Harry Potter sets from Mr. Fleishman.
