Interior view of the Saenger Halle, New Orleans, 1890. A handwritten note on the back of the original reads, "German singing society's theatre interior." The building was constructed, on Lee Circle, for the sole purpose of housing the Saengerfest of the North American Singers’ Union, held in the Crescent City that year. It was demolished following the conclusion of the event. The City of New Orleans purchased the property several years later and erected the Carnegie-funded Main Library for the New Orleans Public Library system.
